Cat Ba Rock Climbing

Cat Ba and Lan Ha Bay are among Vietnam’s best climbing destinations, thanks to steep limestone karst rising straight out of the sea. From bolted sport routes to deep water soloing off a boat, there is something here for most levels.

What and where

The crags around Cat Ba and the islands of Lan Ha Bay offer sport climbing on limestone, plus deep water soloing where you climb above the sea and fall straight into it. The setting, paddling or boating out to a wall, is half the fun.

Levels and season

There are routes for beginners through to experienced climbers. Cooler, drier months are generally more comfortable for climbing. Always go with a proper guide and gear.
