Best Time to Visit Cat Ba Island: Month by Month (2026)

In short: April to October is warm and best for cruising and swimming, with June to August the busiest and priciest. September to November brings quieter days and pleasant temperatures that are perfect for trekking. December to April feels spring-like, mild and dry. The sweet spots most travellers love are September to October and March to April.

Season by season

Summer (June to August): warm, lively, busy

This is peak season. The weather is hot and sunny, ideal for swimming and full days on the boat, and the island has a lively buzz. The trade-offs are bigger crowds, fuller beaches and higher prices, so book tours and rooms a little earlier.

Autumn (September to November): the sweet spot

Crowds thin out and temperatures ease to a comfortable range, often around 15 to 20°C later in the period. It's excellent for trekking the national park and combining bay trips with land adventures. September and October in particular tend to offer that ideal mix of decent weather and fewer people.

Winter to spring (December to April): mild and dry

Cat Ba's cooler months feel like a gentle spring, with soft sunshine and little rain. It's a touch cool for long swims but lovely for hiking, and it's the best time for rock climbing thanks to the cooler temperatures. March and April warm up nicely and stay relatively quiet.

At a glance

Period Weather Crowds Best for
Jun–Aug Hot, sunny Busiest Swimming, beach, cruising
Sep–Nov Mild, pleasant Quieter Trekking, all-round trips
Dec–Feb Cool, dry Quietest Hiking, rock climbing
Mar–Apr Warming up Moderate Balanced weather, fewer crowds

One caveat: weather here is unpredictable. Cloud and rain can roll in at almost any time of year, so pack a light rain jacket whenever you come.
